Green Globe Artichoke

The Green Globe Artichoke (Cynara scolymus) is a perennial plant belonging to the Compositae family, cultivated for its edible and fleshy flower buds. This plant thrives in temperate climates and is best harvested in its prime between the ages of 3 to 4 years.

To cultivate artichokes successfully, rich, well-drained soils with abundant organic matter are ideal. The plant can grow up to a height of approximately 1 meter, yielding a robust annual harvest if well cared for.

• Optimal temperature range is between 22-25°C; tolerates as low as 5°C.
• Plant in spring, from April to June, and transplant in July to August.
• Maintain consistent moisture but avoid waterlogged conditions.

With careful management, the artichokes can be harvested in autumn and can continue producing for several winters.
