The Zalla Red Onion is a medium-late cycle onion variety known for its excellent conservation qualities. These bulbs are flattish with an exterior skin that is a rich copper-purple when dried. The interior features a deep purple hue near the surface that transitions to a violet color towards the center. Typically, these bulbs reach a considerable size, easily averaging around 200 grams.
Planting: Optimal planting time ranges from November to February, depending on the region. Seeds should be sown directly into the ground with a recommended dosage of 6-8 Kgs/Ha, or start them in a nursery with approximately 10 grams per square meter, transplanting when they reach pencil diameter, spaced 15x20 cm apart.
Harvesting: Begins in early July, varying based on planting dates and cultivation methods.
